Firesteel Creek Hunting Lodge is expanding business to accommodate a waiting list. In order to do this some additional ground has been purchased for the sole purpose of having preserve ground and thus expanding the hunting season from September 1 to March 31st. Those of you who currently have a weekend during the regular season from October 20th through December 15th will only benefit from this if you choose. The released pheasants are flown into habitat that also sustains a population of wild birds. When managed properly and not over hunted it provides a mixed bag limit of wild & released birds. Those of you who are unfamiliar with preserve ground, this is ground where birds have to be released based on how many birds a group wants to shoot in a given day. Preserve ground does not have a three bird limit like hunting wild birds during the regular season. The option for the groups who hunt wild birds is that if you finish your wild bird hunt early you can opt to shoot more birds on the preserve ground.
The other option I am working on is to warm up on released birds on a designated course called a European Hunt or Continental Hunt before going out to hunt wild birds. There will be an added cost of thirty dollars per bird.
The other safety net this provides is being able to hunt when the wild bird population hits a down year. Please remember this is an option for you to choose you do not have to hunt on the preserve ground. If you are interested in any of these options for the up-coming year for your group please call me or e-mail because I will need to order birds by the end of April. If you decide on this option during your weekend of hunting I might not be able to provide the birds that late.
